ServicesYou are welcome to attend any of our services at St Ninian’s. Our regular weekly service times are shown below. Sometimes these are replaced by special services, for example on Saints’ days. Please check the news and events page for further details. The Church Services
For details of 9am Sunday services during the winter period see 'Sundays' below. EvensongChoral Evensong is held generally on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 4.30pm except in July, August and December. For details of the dates please click here. Sundays9am Eucharist A said service held in the Lady Chapel with neither music nor sermon and using the 1970 Liturgy. The service is led by one of clergy and the readings are taken from the Revised Common Lectionary. During the winter period from December until end April the 9am service will only be held on the first Sunday of the month, Christmas Day & Easter Day. The dates are 5th December, 25th December, 2nd January 2011, 6th February, 6th March, 3rd April & 24th April. 11am Sung Eucharist. This is regarded as the main Cathedral service, with a sermon and choir, using the 1982 Liturgy. Communion is celebrated at either the Nave Altar or the High Altar depending on the season. The service is led by the clergy with lay participation in reading (from the Revised Common Lectionary) and intercessions. Children are always welcome and The 153 Club(Sunday School) is held during term time. There is also a children's corner, with soft cushions, in the side aisle where children can read and draw while the service is in progress.
Tea/coffee is served in the Chapter House after the service and all are welcome to join us for this. A Traidcraft stall is also available. WeekdaysDaily morning prayer is said in the Lady Chapel at 9am on Monday to Wednesday using the Scottish Episcopal Church daily prayer book. Services are led by clergy and laity on a rota basis. Wednesday 11am: Said Eucharist in the Lady Chapel, led by the clergy, with no sermon. The 1970 Liturgy is used with readings taken from the Revised Common Lectionary Thursday 9am Said Eucharist in the Lady Chapel, led by the clergy, with no sermon, using the 1982 Liturgy. Wednesday 10am A Guided Time for Group Prayer is held in the Lady Chapel. Festivals and Special ServicesAdditional services are held during the major festival seasons e.g. Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Advent and Christmas. For details of these services, please click here. Family ServicesFamily services take place at 11:00 on some Sundays throughout the year. These are notably Mothering Sunday, Harvest Thanksgiving and the Sunday before Christmas, when the The 153 Club presents its nativity play. Weddings
St Ninian’s Cathedral is an ideal venue for weddings, however small or grand. Before you make any arrangements please contact the Provost through the Cathedral Office to discuss possible dates and times. We can also suggest ways to help with your wedding arrangements such as music, flowers, photography, cars, reception venue etc If you wish to check the legal issues associated with getting married in Scotland this is available on the Registrars in Scotland website. The Provost and clergy team will also advise you about which Scottish Episcopal Church forms you will need to complete, depending on whether either of you have been married before. Baptisms
Baptisms are conducted during one of the main Sunday services. If you would like your child to be baptised, please contact the Cathedral Office for further details.
